Operation Break Bread is a program that connects people in Pittsburgh with people who are incarcerated at the two women’s prisons in PA – SCI – Cambridge Springs and SCI- Muncy.
Our first group visit was in July of 2017 which brought together 11 Pittsburghers with 10 women at Cambridge Springs. It was really fun! Since then we have connected over 30 people from Pittsburgh with people at Cambridge Springs prison and with the new Virtual Visits we are able to expand our program more regularly to Muncy. (We were scheduled to have our first big group visit to Muncy when Covid hit, so we haven’t got to go in person yet)
We organize group visits several times a year and smaller groups go up often.
Our friends on the inside refer names of others who would like visits. If you are a family member and you want to carpool or add your loved one to our list to receive visits please contact us at: letsgetfreepa@gmail.com
If you are interested in visiting keep in mind the trip from Pittsburgh to Cambridge Springs is two hours north. We often leave by 9:30 in the morning and then return to Pittsburgh by 6pm if we stay until the end of the visit – 3:30. We don’t always stay until end of visiting hours but still, it can take up a whole day!
The Muncy trip is about a 4 hour drive to center state and may include a hotel overnight stay – all costs covered.
Some people have only visited one time and some people go up again and again. It’s important to not make any promises you can not keep no matter how small.
If you are interested in visiting someone with us or in connection with us, please fill out this form and we will contact you and connect you!
